Russell Kororāreka Walk

Screen shot Russell Kororāreka walkRussell, formerly known as Kororāreka has been a place of settlement for over a thousand years. The sheltered and deep anchorage has resulted in continuous occupation by Māori for centuries and, following the European expeditions into the South Pacific during the 18th century an favoured anchorage for visiting ships.

The new arrivals from all around the world were quick to see the opportunities presented in this seaside village, and settled here, many marrying into Māori families. On this walk you will hear of the early land exchanges and see what life was life two centuries ago.

Our walk is told in partnership with Kororāreka Marae Society, and a percentage of the proceeds are returned to them when you buy the Russell Kororāreka walk.
